Childcare
If your baby is being cared for by a child- minder or in a creche, you might need to allocate some time to ensure carers are confident with lifting techniques and nappy changing.
You may also wish to inform your child-minders of the following points
(1) the need to check the babies toes for signs of swelling or poor circulation, particularly if the infant is irritable
(2) the importance of keeping the cast dry and ensuring food and small objects do not find their way under the cast
(3) the best seating and sleeping/napping position and equipment for your baby
Occasionally ‘health and safety’ issues may arise - for example beanbags are not permitted in some creches for health and safety reasons. You may wish to recruit the assistance of the local paediatric physiotherapist or occupational therapist when these issues arise.
